I was drawn to fantasy novels. Vampires, fallen angels, anything that suggested someone's life was more complicated than mine in a supernatural way.
That's the feeling I miss. Being so interested in a story that everything else can wait. I could finish a chapter and only check the time after starting the next one. “One more page” was a sincere promise when I made it. Then I kept renewing it. I wish my next bedtime problem were finding a stopping point in a good book I can't put down.

Physical pages have always made me more invested.

I still love books, but I notice how easily I interrupt myself now. I check something on my phone, follow it to something else, and suddenly I've spent the time I meant to spend reading on a screen. Sometimes I couldn't even tell you what I was looking at. And I also have to read for university, so when I have time, I read the texts I have to read and not the ones I choose. I'd like to make more room for that kind of reading again.

I want to give myself time to become interested in a book without expecting it to compete with every notification. I should probably leave my phone in another room.
